How To Get Here

By car:

The most convenient route to Skye from the mainland is via the bridge, crossing from Kyle of Lochalsh to Kyleakin. Portree is approximately 35 miles from Kyleakin. Follow the A87 from Glasgow, or the A82 from Inverness.

By ferry:

Caledonian MacBrayne run car and foot passenger services from Mallaig to Armadale as well as Uist/Harris to Uig. For details see www.calmac.co.uk

There is also a small privately run ferry from Glenelg to Kylerhea.

  • Armadale to Portree approx. 42 miles
  • Uig to Portree approx. 15 miles
  • Kylerhea to Portree approx. 35 miles.

By train:

The train arrives at Kyle of Lochalsh from Inverness where there is a coach transfer to Portree via the Skye bridge. There is also a rail service from Glasgow via Fort William to Mallaig connecting with the Armadale ferry. For details on train times see www.thetrainline.com.

By coach:

There are regular services to Skye from Glasgow and Inverness. For details see www.citylink.co.uk.

By air:

The nearest airport is at Inverness approximately 100 miles from the Isle of Skye and Glasgow approx. 200 miles and Glasgow (Prestwick) slightly further. For flight details see www.easyjet.co.uk or www.ba.com.
